CORE

 

A) Spend 10-20 minutes in a time of Listening Prayer. 

 

Similar to our physical training, we want to program a varied session into our week on Thursdays. These sessions will be focused on gaining experience in different spiritual disciplines. This week we are focused on Listening Prayer.

 

This form of prayer is likely one you have not done before or is less practiced. Rather than making our requests known to the Lord (which is great), we are going to spend time asking questions to Jesus and sitting in the quiet stillness around us for His response. 

 

Some questions you could choose this week are: 

 

"What is your 'word of love' to me today?"

"What is your invitation to me today?"

"How can I better serve or love those around me?"

"Where do I need your healing today?"

"What are you trying to show me through my current emotions?"

"What do I need to surrender to you?"

 

Choose 3 or 4 questions and spend 5 or so minutes on each all based on the time you have. 

 

Grab your journal or notes, find a quiet space, and set a timer.

 

Open up your time of listening prayer by reading a Psalm (23 is a great option) and by saying "Lord, I am here this morning to hear Your voice. Speak to me Lord as I quiet my mind and soul.". 

 

Then ask your question to Jesus and remain quiet and focus your mind on Him. As words or pictures come to mind, write them down. Don't over think this. 

 

You can sit in the stillness and quiet around you or play some low volume instrumental worship in the background. 

 

To end your time, reflect on what you heard and/or wrote down from the Lord. Test these words / pictures against scripture and the character of God. Do they align? Are they forming you into Jesus? Will they produce more Fruit of the Spirit in you? 

 

Finish by asking Jesus to secure these words in your heart as you go throughout your day and week.
